The Urban League of Greater Cleveland (ULGC) has vast expertise in the workforce arena both past and present. We have provided an array of employment and training services to nearly 4,500 participants in over five years. ULGC works to raise employment and income levels by assisting individuals to access the skills, knowledge, support and networks they need to enter the workforce and advance in their careers. Through relationships and partnerships with local employers, we are able to provide job seekers with employment referrals and placement services, career exposure, career advancement, seminars, coaching and long-term retention strategies. As the ULGC moves forward in our next phase, the Workforce Readiness area has been totally revamped. A business plan designed to ensure a demand driven, client centered approach has been completed, ensuring a strategic approach to the re-design of the Workforce Development Department (WFDD). ULGC officially launched a program for at risk youth who have been involved in the justice system. The Urban Youth Empowerment Program Now (UYEP NOW) is funded through the National Urban League and the U.S. Department of Labor. UYEP NOW targets young people ages 14 to 18 who in the last 12 months have been involved in the juvenile justice system and have no previous adult convictions. UYEP NOW serves high poverty areas throughout the City of Cleveland. We have teamed up with such organizations as Cuyahoga Community College to aid them in providing the young people involved, with such skills as completing high school or receiving their GED and also soft skills that could lead to an apprenticeship or even a two or four year college.
Solid Opportunities for Advancement and Retention (S.O.A.R.) Participants attend a three week program that meets Monday through Thursday, 9AM to 4PM to simulate an actual job.
